"Edmund wakes up with Maria, but his thoughts are clearly elsewhere as he tells her that the stables were the inspiration for his novel, which Brooke has just picked up to read. Brooke clearly sees that she, Edmund and Tad are the prototypes for the characters in Edmund's novel. Edmund catches Brooke reading his novel and flips out. Edmund presses Brooke for her impression of the novel, and Brooke finally relents. Brooke believes that Edmund is writing about her life, and that Edmund is still in love with her." - AMCthroughtheyears
"Edmund admits that the novel is a love letter to Brooke, but he doesn't want Brooke feeling sorry for him. Brooke wants Edmund to be happy, and wishes she could do something to make him happy. Edmund could be happy with Brooke, but he knows that he is just clinging on to something that isn't there anymore. Brooke admits that isn't entirely true because she still loves Edmund, and she always will, but it hurts her too much to dissect what they have lost anymore. She has made a life with Tad and Jamie, and she and Edmund have to let go of the past. Edmund agrees, and promptly quits Tempo, quoting Brooke that it is for the best. Then, just as Brooke had agreed to let Tad go back to Dixie, Tad gives Brooke the same out, which she doesn't take." - AMCthroughtheyears
